So, a nice lazy weekend passes - lazy compared to the previous three, which involved strange foreign places like Belgium, Germany, and Renfrew.
Did the shopping and sink-unblocking on Saturday, then eventually went to
tanngrisnir's birthday drinks at the Ingram for a couple of hours. Another lazy start today, surfacing around 12:30pm and not achieving much except going to the gym in the afternoon. I did manage to get my Windows reinstall back on track after doing a repair installation on Friday evening, and installed one game - Civ 2. Of course I had to ... errr ... "play test" it a little. That game finished this evening just before dinner, with the successful arrival of my spaceship - unfortunately, sometime since the last time I installed Civ 2, the Indeo video player that is needed for the in-game movies has had restrictive licensing conditions put on it.
(Although Googling for it now suggests I should be able to download the 5.11 shareware version instead ... bah).
Anyway, the game played fine without it - up until the point of playing the "yay, you made it to Alpha Centauri" video, at which point it locked up and needing killing, which I took it as a sign to go and cook dinner (not the usual sign I get, which is
rwrylsin grabbing me and saying "feed me!").
Anyway, I've probably escaped Civ 2 for now, although playing it almost always gives me the urge to play Alpha Centauri, because the interface is so much nicer. Instead of that, though, I'm installing Baldur's Gate II (and I, and Throne of Bhaal, then I'm going to install a mod called "Baldur's Gate Trilogy" which claims to combine them all into one giant game). Expect me to surface again sometime in July ...
